David Gonville is a New England based contemporary artist. His work explores ocean patterns, textures, and micro-systems from a surfer’s perspective. His imagery reflects the convergence of marine geology with current weather systems and the transformational properties of being on or near the ocean.

The compositions that emerge in Gonville’s work reference personal experiences in the ever changing coastal environment of the Atlantic Ocean where he surfs all year and the farmland and forests that he manages on the southern coast of New England. Gonville transcribes his experiences of changing weather patterns, open space, peaceful environments and mindfulness into his work. He paints to convey this connection with the ocean and the environments around him. Through his process of exploring the intersection of climate and the coast, he hopes to highlight the importance of preserving our most precious natural resources.

Gonville’s encaustics and mixed media work can be found in collections and galleries around the world.
